The flu can strike healthcare workers and patients at anytime, but many people contract the flu during the typical flu season. Pharmacy technicians come in contact with people while at work including fellow co-workers, patients, and pharmacy customers so it is best to know how to prevent the flu and what your options are should you get the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that healthcare workers get their annual flu shot to help protect them from getting the dreaded flu. Flu shots are given at many convenient locations such as pharmacies, hospitals, urgent care clinics, retail clinics, and are sometimes given at health fairs to help individuals get easy access to getting their flu shot.
So how would patients know if they have the flu? Here are some tell-tale signs they may have the bug:
Fever. (Not all patients may display fever). Some patients will have diarrhea and vomiting.Pharmacy technicians can remind others of how important it is to get their flu shot and also make them aware of the difference between a cold and the flu.
