Work Tips Tuesday: Finding a Job Out of State

26-Nov-13 8:00 AM  CST

Finding a job out of state is not impossible, but it does take persistence and perseverance to locate the right position in other localities.  Here are some well researched tips from various sources to help you find your dream job out of state:

Research.  Be sure to research the location you wish to live in.  The job will be a big part of your life, but you will also want to live in an area you desire as well.  Research housing, schools, neighborhoods, services, medical care, and crime rates. Be realistic.  Research moving costs and what it will run for you to relocate.  Moving costs can add up quickly.  Your potential employer may or may not pay for relocation to another state so keep that in mind that you may have to pay your own moving costs.   Stay focused and don’t give up.  Keep your dream alive and work towards achieving your relocation goal each week and know that dreams do come true.

Start planning early for your relocation.  Also consider making a list of pros and cons to moving to the location of your choice.  It’s better to make a smart move than a wrong decision you will regret.

Work Tips Tuesday: Surviving Black Friday

18-Nov-13 9:00 AM  CST

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of the heaviest shopping days of the year and it’s no surprise that working Black Friday can be a challenge – even for the swiftest retail pharmacy technician.  Many technicians are asked to work during the busiest time of the year knowing that the retail store will be more crowded, and the need for more trained staff increases.  Here are some helpful tips to get you through:

Take Care.  It may sound simple, but get a good nights sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a lunch with you.  Taking care of yourself first means you will be prepared to take care of others as they come to your pharmacy to pick up a prescription, ask a healthcare question, or shop the sales. Pharmacy’s have sales too.  Some pharmacies have sales on Black Friday too so be prepared for extra workloads, more questions, and potentially rushed customers. Stay positive.  Going into work with a positive outlook will help you survive the day and remember to lookout for the shoppers who are glad to be out and part of the madness.   Remember.  Remember this is a time for your pharmacy to shine.  Whether your retail pharmacy uses this special  day to reach out to customers with specials in the pharmacy or it’s business as usual, make it a memorable day by going the extra mile for a stressed out or sick customer and show them you care.

Is your pharmacy running specials on Black Friday?  Are you scheduled that day to work around all the hustle and bustle?

Work Tips Tuesday: Coping with Holiday Stress in the Workplace

3-Dec-13 8:15 AM  CST

The holidays are usually a more stressful time for individuals and often that stress can carry over into the workplace.  There is so much to do and plan that employees may feel extra overwhelmed during this time of year.  Here are a few tips to help you keep it together this season:

Prioritize.  Make a conscious decision as to what can wait and what has to be done ‘right now.’  Prioritizing can save your life and reduce your stress levels at the office during holiday time. Remember kindness and compassion.  Give fellow employees the benefit of the doubt and if you are a supervisor do the same.  Most often work conflict can be resolved in a positive manner.Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).  Many companies offer Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to help counsel or refer workers to trained professionals that can help them with holiday stress, anxiety, depression, financial worries, and many other types of assistance.  EAPs are often available at no cost to the employee and may be covered through insurance providers. Encourage Good Communication.  Encouraging good communication throughout the office is appreciated by each and every employee.  If you are a supervisor make sure workers have time off during the holidays and also follow up with them on work projects to ensure everything is getting done just before or right after a holiday.

A lot of productivity and fun can take place at the office during the most festive time of the year.  It is also a time to spend great moments with bosses, co-workers, family, and friends.  Make the season worth remembering at the office and enjoy every moment.
